Hamar is an exciting city with a strong cultural history and rich nature and outdoor life. Today, more than 30,000 people live here and more than 10,000 people commute to the city every day. Yet less and less people spends time in the city centre. Torghjørnet shopping mall used to be a vibrant place, playing a historical and central role in the city. In recent years the mall has become more and more empty, of both people and shops, which also affects the facade facing the shopping street. Torghjørnet was in need of a new concept. This was the beginning of the transformation strategy “from vacant spaces to sustainability center”.

The goal of the project was to make Torghjørnet a central part of the city again, and to strengthen the center of Hamar as an urban and attractive city center through insight, concept development and business modeling. The result is a flexible, viable project, with several realized sustainability concepts that today generate life, activity and increased local value.
